America spent her last care less day/ Enjoying the bounty of summer/ But so much beset her that those who had met her/ Knew she must wake from her slumber/ For freedom is fleeting when tyrants arise/ As patriots prepare a little surprise for those who would harm liberty's enterprise/ They hide not in shadow/ They walk not at night/ And dying to defeat them is the hero's delight/ The martyrs are ready for the cause is just/ Time to trample the despot into his pit of dust
