Ides of July

She gave away her treasure to a sailor drifting by// She gave it with all her heart on the Ides of July// She gave it in the blinking, in the blinking, of an eye// Then she gave it with great pleasure to a salesman on a horse who was simply riding by// She did it this second time without even a hint of remorse// She loved this drummer so much that he took her as his wife// But then he caught her with the gardner and tried to stab her with a knife// After this, he could not remain with her and sued her for divorce// That she contested bitterly and eventually won of course// For she visited judge's chambers many times during the trial// And then the judge would gaze at her with his adoring smile
