Together
That golden moment when we cease to be// There is no you, there is no me// No future, no past, but the moment can't last

Misanthrope
He had always heard "no good deed goes unpunished". He did not know from experience because he assiduously avoided any good deeds. He would rifle through bins of donated clothes, not to provide a wardrobe for the numerous children he had fathered with several women, but to sell them in consignment shops. He regularly attended church services, never to worship, but only to scout out what he would steal later or to dip into the plate as it was passed. He was never kind to animals but adored the thrill of the hunt. He had joined the military, not out of a sense of duty or patriotism but because he relished the chance to take a human life. He knew the Bible chapter and verse, but he did not believe a word of it. He would present his girlfriends with flowers pilfered from graveyards. I suppose the abject lack of virtue could be forgiven, but what really galled me was that he always voted Republican.

Distaff Victory
Woman// Woman as weapon// I am compelled to take a piece// I am charmed// I am completely disarmed// You blew away my pretense// Stripped away my last defense// I am captured and enraptured// I am trapped by your splendor// And I surrender

Living the Dream
We fade into the winter mist of fading memory/ All that once cost us dear is now completely free/ Not sullen or downtrodden/ But dancing light and free/ Every fool's errand we attempt becomes an heroic quest/ Each cruel hoax on us is just an innocent jest/ In our yearning for nostalgia/ We create an unreality/ We see again only what we want/ Forgetting the pain we went through/ On the journey to be free

We are Whole
You are not some mountain I must climb/ Or an ocean to cross/ A river to bridge/ Or any divide/ You are the part of me that was missing until February 15/ And I pray I am and will always remain part of you

The Marathon Massacre
One thousand flags unfurled as runners ran their race/ Twenty thousand competitors striving to keep pace/ And in that sudden moment/ That instant of disgrace/ Smiles of accomplishment were stripped from every face/ To those who perpetrated this evil/ The decent will give chase/ To rout you and your ilk from your hiding place

Bit of Texas
Some spreads are measured in miles down here in Texas/ A little ranch may be a thousand acres around the Brazos/ But all I need is my little bit of Lone Star/ And that is the peace I have with you
